Precision Racing LA took to the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas, this past weekend for rounds three and four of the Toyota GR North America Cup series. With three drivers in action—including Toyota celebrity driver Rutledge Wood and Mike LaMarra in the Legends Class, as well as Karl Forman in the National Class—Precision Racing LA’s LaMarra secured a podium finish in the Legends Class, competing against a talented field of drivers.

The race weekend featured over 30 competitors and began with two test sessions on Thursday, followed by official practice on Friday. Saturday and Sunday showcased intense qualifying and wheel-to-wheel races across the field.

On Saturday, LaMarra qualified fifth in class. He fought hard throughout the race after an uncharacteristic spin at turn 16 to finish eighth in class, just behind Rutledge Wood in his #18 entry. Karl Forman started 25th overall, making impressive progress by moving up six positions to finish 19th when the checkered flag waved.

Sunday saw more strong performances from the team. LaMarra earned the team’s best result, securing third place on the Legends Class podium. Forman matched his previous day’s result, finishing 19th in the National Class. Rutledge Wood faced challenges and, despite not completing the full race distance, is looking forward to future events with his exceptional quick learning of the car with Precision Racing LA.

“We had a great weekend, and it’s been a blast driving a rear-wheel-drive car and working with our engineers to fine-tune the handling,” expressed Mike LaMarra after his podium finish. “I had a great time working with Karl and Rutledge, and we made improvements with every session. Having more track time at COTA made me feel much more comfortable compared to Sonoma. I’m really looking forward to the next race!”

Forman reflected on his second race, saying, “I’m building my confidence and feel like I’m making progress every time I go out on the track. It’s not exactly where I want to be yet, but I know that by the end of the year, I’ll be where I need to be. I’m excited for the next event, and I look forward to continuing to grow with the team while learning a new track and having fun.”

Rutledge Wood shared his thoughts on the competitive nature of the series: “I knew the series would be competitive, but the talent level is through the roof. I was most surprised by how close everyone’s times are. The physical endurance, especially in hot conditions, is incredible. I’ve been doing heat training, but I clearly need more because I was exhausted. What I love is that I get to learn the car and keep pushing it. Even when you don’t finish exactly where you hope, it’s an incredible experience. I love this Toyota brand, and I couldn’t be happier.”

Looking ahead, the Precision Racing LA Toyota GR Cup North America program will next compete in rounds five and six at Sebring International Raceway in central Florida from May 16–18.
